Performance in Tyler Mitchell's exhibition: Alen Nsambu – NEON BEIGE

Photo: Aino Kontinen

During the last week of Tyler Mitchell’s exhibition, Alen Nsambu will perform a version of their dance piece NEON BEIGE.

What if our existence was not determined by the external gaze?

NEON BEIGE was born from the need to create space for new kinds of on-stage representations. It came into the world through a wish to blend in in order to be accepted, while simultaneously knowing that you often stand out as the only one in the room. The performance weaves together Nsambu’s experiences, memories and dreams, extending its roots this way to many spaces and times.

The title of the show, neon beige, refrences a space that is neither in the spotlight nor in the center, but where one's own contours are drawn out just enough to leave no more room for opacity or ambiguity.

Choreography and performance: Alen Nsambu
Sound and light: Nori Kin
The work was first produced in 2024 by Zodiak, Alen Nsambu and Ehkä-tuotanto
