Image — a dream, a mirror, an icon — a photograph. Being — a part of the world, participating now, in a future yet to come. That’s what you see here: 14 graduating students engaged with the image, looking at the world, curious about the possibility of their chosen medium as an act of expression, testimony, discovery.
The works in the exhibition are outcomes of Aalto University’s Photography major in the Department of Art and Media, created as a collective vision of contemporary photography by a group of practitioners on the cusp of graduation. Photography, in their eyes, is bio-matter, a diary, a recaptured memory or a faded dream, a document and a fabulation. Traditional cameras are used alongside technological advances. Photographs are dismantled and reassembled, transformed by the exhibited artists into material, graphic, perceptual, synthetic, ideological, cultural, and living images. Ultimately, what you see are beings in this world, a group of artists and photographers unafraid to meet the future.
