The artist Tanja Koponen (b. 1968) will create an installation In This Room in the Project Space at the Finnish Museum of Photography. In This Room is about the impossibility of photography. Koponen asks whether anything that exists in reality can be caught in a photograph as it is right now, or as it has once been. The final work will only emerge during the construction stage.
Koponen frequently sets up her insightful works to make them site-specific, using a variety of media. Last March, her all-inclusive installation baffled passers-by on Helsinki’s Iso-Roobertinkatu Street by leaving Galleria Sinne as an undefined in-between space. In September, Koponen and lighting designer Pietu Pietiäinen staged Shootin’ Kerava by parking a car pounding out heavy bass sounds in front of Kerava Art Museum.
The visual artist Tanja Koponen lives and works in Helsinki. She has exhibited widely both in Finland and abroad.
