Back at school
After each visit to the museum, it is recommended to have a feedback discussion with the students and think about what you remembered. We at the museum are also interested in how did your visit go. Any possible feedback is very welcome. You can send feedback to erja.salo@fmp.fi, Erja Salo (Head of Education and Public programmes)
Preparation
Before visiting the museum, think about which topic or theme you want to focus on. A visit to an exhibition can deepen what you have already learned or be the start of new learning process. Museum visits are great, for example, for learning about phenomena according to the new curriculum and integrating different subjects.
Planning the content of the museum visit together with the students makes the visit more exciting. Especially for the younger students, it is good to tell in advance where we are going and what we will do in the museum. Working in a museum, museum work and the basics of museum rules can also be the subject of the visit. Students should be encouraged already at school to discuss and ask questions. The materials accompanying the exhibitions also serve as a good support for preparation.
In the museum
The teacher's role during the guided tour or independent visit is important. The teacher must be present during the entire visit. Good student behavior is a common goal of both teachers and museums.
For the sake of the safety of the artworks, please also note the following instructions when visiting the exhibition:
Move calmly during the visit. Please consider other groups and museum guests. The teacher must always accompany the student group. We recommend that you explore the exhibitions together. Have a conversation, but avoid giving directions in a loud voice. If you do assignments at the exhibition, please remember that even then you cannot leave the students unsupervised. You are not allowed to lean on the walls in the exhibition spaces, nor do you write or draw against the walls. Works of art may not be touched unless permission is given in written form.
